A young boy is trapped in his neighbour’s house. The people who come to rescue him are also trapped. Is the neighbour crazy, or does he speak the truth?
Need to develop script…
Topical winter day – kid playing basketball in backyard, gets static shock on basketball pole, keeps playing, accidentally throws basketball into neighbour’s yard.
Neighbours house looks quiet, kid tells mum about the static shock, mum says its winter in the tropics – dry with lots of static charge, mum says just to go over and get the ball.
Kid knocks on door, calls out for neighbour, no answer, goes to backyard and gets ball – sees window slightly open, peeks in, sees an old kids toy, reaches for it, can’t reach, climbs in the window and trips over the body of a young woman, asks if she’s ok, reaches out to touch her, get a static shock.
Middle aged man suddenly appears with a broom and yells angrily at the kid, pushing him away, ‘Did you touch her?’ He pins the kid to the floor with the broom, telling him he can’t go. The man closes and locks the window and forces the kid to the dining room and to sit on a chair, muttering ‘you shouldn’t have touched her…’ over and over. The kid notices candles around the house and a (9v?) battery under a glass tumbler in the middle of the table. There’s a knock on the door and the sound of the mum’s voice, ‘Hello, Mr Beresford?’
The man speaks quietly to the kid, ‘Don’t say a thing, or I’ll kill you and your mum, too.’ The kid sobs quietly.
The man opens the door a little and has a conversation with the mum – saying he’s ill, he hasn’t seen the kid, maybe he’s playing video games in his room. The kid squirms anxiously, fighting his emotions. As the mum leaves, the kid yells out, the mum bangs on the door, yelling out her kid’s nickname, the door opens and she is violently pulled inside.
In the house, she sees her kid and runs over to grab him. The man knocks her away with broom, ‘Don’t touch him!’ They have a heated discussion and the mum tries to quickly call the police on her phone. The man knocks her phone on to the ground and smashes it just as the operator answers. The mum runs and holds her kid tightly.
The mum asks why, the man raves about aliens living inside humans – about dreams and alien refugees; you ever look around in your dreams? – about two aliens trying to kill each other; they’re fighting about something – they travel through energy / survive on the electricity in our bodies and our brain – one was trapped in his daughter’s body possibly now in her son, the other is trapped in the 9v battery on the table. The mum looks around to see all electrical points covered in duct tape, all appliances unplugged, the wooden broom, the battery in the middle of the table and is frightened / begins to sob. There’s a knock on the door and a voice calls out, ‘hello?’
The man speaks quietly to the family, ‘Don’t say a thing, or I’ll have to kill you all. We can’t let them out.’ The kid sobs quietly, the mum becomes stoic.
The man opens the door to find two police officers – repeats the same story about being ill, that he hasn’t heard anything strange when asked about the neighbours, who the police are checking up on. Officer sees the broken phone and asks to come in. The man looks alarmed and hesitates, the first officer insists, as the man opens the door and the officer steps in, he grabs the gun from its holster, and grabs the second officer (woman) around the neck, telling the first officer to back away, that he did a few years in the army, knows how to handle a gun and is on the edge of losing it – last 24 hours has been intense, and both officers to throw their weapons (guns and tasers) on the sofa. They do so, he lets the officer go and collects the weapons in a plastic bag, which is thrown into a bedroom, keeping the gun and forcing the officers into the dining room to sit around the table with the mum and kid.
The man tells the kid and mum to sit in seperate chairs, asking the mum if she’s been zapped by the kid, believing that the alien is still in the kid. The officer wants to know what’s going on and the man tells an abridged version. They all look at the battery and begin a discussion about what the truth is; the mum is upset, the kid is scared, the male officer is arrogant, scoffing, the woman officer is calming, asking the man ‘where do the aliens come from? why does he know so much?’
The man explains about his teenage daughter having nightmares (flashback scene) and hearing voices in her head, that she became anxious and withdrawn… one day tucking her in bed, he got a shock and that night heard a voice telling him the same things. When plugging in a nightlight, he got another shock then had a fit, hearing two voices fighting in his head, his fingers were sparking with static and his daughter came to help and got a static shock, then she was in fits. When he went to help he got shocked and passed out.
When he came to, he wanted to check his daughter and the voice in his head said not to, it explained about an alien race that travels through electricity, and lives in living human bodies, that you can see them when you dream, if you just make an effort to look around, that a bad alien is trapped in his daughter’s body, that they can catch it in a battery. The man is to unplug everything that is an escape route, alien will jump into a 9v battery, then the man is to push the 9v battery with a wooden broom to contact his daughter and the alien will chase the bad alien into the battery. Use a glass tumbler and card to pick up the battery. ‘I don’t know if it worked. They could be both in the battery, or both in my daughter, or in the kid…’
The kid says he believes because he can hear voices, and the room discusses, what is the truth: the male officers thinks its baloney, the female officers needs hard evidence, the mum believes it could be true, they kid and man believe – they compare this to religion, myths, legends…
The man has let down his guard and the woman officer tackles him, there’s a struggle knocking the battery off the table and everyone screams. When the man is restrained the male officer picks up the glass tumbler and goes to pick up the battery, ‘Don’t!’ yells the kid. The officer is zapped, slips on the broom, bumps his head on the table and passes out. Everyone is quiet, the female officer calls his name but it hesitant to touch him, the male officer suddenly wakes with a short scream. ‘I had a weird dream, it was of my wedding, but when I looked around at the guest some of their faces…’ (flashback to wedding with some scary / disfigured faces) The officer than begins to have a conversation with himself, then walks over to the broken phone, gets a static shock, then the broken phone lights up.
A voice from the phone says the bad alien is in the kid, for the kid to not be afraid, to touch the phone… before the kid does, a large arc of static leaps from the phone to the kid, then to the stereo player, television, causing them to momentarily turn on and display weird sounds/voices/battle and around the room through different people and appliances, knocking everyone over, then into a powerpoint where the gaff tape has peeled off a little. Outside the house the power pole electricity wire sparks twice as it travels away from the house.
Everyone in the house grumbles and begins to sit up, they hear a girl’s voice, ‘dad?’ and see the man’s daughter, standing in the doorway, looking dishevelled.
Ext. Park
Man, daughter, mum and kid and having a BBQ in the park. A police car turns up and the two officers join the BBQ, asking how everyone is. Everyone is smiling. The male police officer says to the man, ‘You’re letting the snags burn, mate, gotta flip ‘em regularly.’ Reaches for the metal tongs and gets a static shock.

Characters could mention the Fermi theory during the debate.

A father discovers the real reason some people hear voices in their heads, an alien race who can travel through electrical currents, and helps a ‘good’ alien hunt down and stop 2 ‘bad’ aliens who are misusing their power (getting too strong)
Alien race moves through static, internet hard wire, electrical currents in animals. Destroyed by electro-magnetic fields or death of host (if no escape route, e.g. iron in the ground or water) – feed off moving electrons
Can be seen and recognised in the periphery when dreaming (one scene alien has gotten into father, who is knock out and restrained, two aliens battle in head while father sleeps in insulated bed driving the alien into a battery with LED overload)
Strong aliens can influence body movement by triggering electrical pulses in the muscles, or overload electric signal in brain causing seizures (sometimes involuntary muscle twitches are caused by alien movement)
Chemical changes in the human body cause an increase in electrical energy, therefore the taking of drugs by hosts are encouraged by aliens
Less intelligent people are easier to control as they don’t engage their brains often – so always looking for dumb people to reside in
Over population of aliens is causing anxiety and exhaustion in humans, information age fuels the health of aliens absorbing electrical impulses
Aliens quickly leave older people hence deceases like Alzheimer’s, they do not have the power to heal biological deterioration
Refugee aliens also often hide in humans (usually dormant, just look around and you can see them id you look directly and focus – sometimes look like a dog or tree with weird faces and strange colours/textures – some see the benefit of health institutes and have people ‘hear’ voices in their heads)
Alien communicates with father through mobile phone speaker – audio is easier than visual, although demonstrates on electrical devices in the house
Father questions sanity, challenged by family and friends, makes friends with smart young electrician who believes him (build up relationship) who is killed by one of the ‘bad’ aliens after being told to stay out of the hunt (first time they meet they knock him out, second time they kill him when rescuing their captured friend)
Father’s name is Ruslan, occupation electrical tradesman
Ask Andrew, electrical engineer or biological scientist to read story and verify science before publishing

Alternate ending: additional concept could be start the story with a large solar flare erupting from the sun and heading to the earth – 18 hours eta arrival (1835 example.)

Two locations: hospital, house/apartment
Father’s daughter has a seizure and goes into a coma
Doctors not sure what happened, overload of electric current, may have touched a live wire
Mother stays with daughter and father, brother and older daughter go home (daughter is tired after adrenalin and staying with her sister through the experience)
Daughter heads to bed, brother has a shower and father is contacted by Alien
Alien contacts father via smartphone (even with battery out) – shows how fast they can move and where to and how they can use frequency to produce sound (or vision in digital devices) – can also move the ear drum to make voices in the head, after studying the 600 or so patterns of general words spoken by humans
Story is that he is hunting two Alien terrorists, bad aliens who kill for fun or to absorb the energy from other aliens to become stronger, he followed one of them into his daughter and all three attacked him, she had a seizure during the fight, he barely got away – help him stop the bad aliens, they’re getting too strong for him to catch them on his own
One by one the father and alien track down and trap/kill other aliens: split them up and destroy them, the main alien absorbs their power to help with the fight (first is a fluke, second and third are strategic)
Father tries to explain to brother who does not believe him, alien demonstrates
Father’s brother is an electrician to help get the last two, they wonder where the aliens came from and father intends to ask
Cut the house off from the rest of the world by cutting power lines, fences etc. – concrete slab, dirt and sand
Daughter wakes to commotion and does not believe them but tells about nightmare with many strange faces
While sedated father sees two aliens fighting and can see their features, frightening shapes and textures/colours – the alien are forced into a battery through an antistatic gun (used for cleaning vinyl – the father has one)
The brother’s heart stops during the battle and the ‘bad’ alien gets away but the good alien kickstarts the brother’s heart
‘Good’ alien shares a story about how he has been tracking ‘bad’ aliens for years, to keep the balance of power even
In the end they destroy both ‘bad’ aliens, the ‘good’ alien grows stronger with each battle – the final showdown has both ‘good’ and ‘bad’ alien killing alien refugees to absorb their power and in the end the ‘good’ alien triumphs
The ‘good’ alien is grateful, house is reconnected, and takes off into the internet, to return home. Father forgets to ask how the aliens came to exist
Month’s later eldest daughter wakes and knows what the father is talking about – he’s not crazy – she describes the bad alien who turns out to be the alien the father helped (she saw him in her sleep/nightmare killing another alien and absorbing his energy and the two good aliens that tried to stop him has asked for her help)
When leaving the hospital their mother receives a static shock at the car door and father, brother and daughters look at each other in alarm
Man on the other side of the world gets a shock while at a vending machine then begins to hear a voice in his head, the same tone as the main alien – “I need your help.”
